J.K. Rowling

When J.K. was one year and 11 months old her mother gave birth to a baby girl.  Her name was Di.  J.K. was so happy to have a younger sister.  When she was 11 years old she went to Wyedean as a secondary school.  When she left school she worked in London.

J.K. had the idea to start writing Harry Potter when she was riding back to London on a train after flat hunting with her boyfriend.  She started to write the book that night but it was not anything like the finished copy.  On December 30th 1990 J.K.'s and Harry's world changed forever.  J.K.'s mother died.  After that she wrote that Harry missed his parents more because she knew how it felt to lose a family member.  J.K. went to Portugal after her mother died.  She was hoping when she went home she would have the finished copy of Harry Potter number one.  But she didn't have the book when she came back; J.K. had a daughter.  J.K.'s marrage didn't work out, but J.K. was happy with her daughter.  Her name is Jessica and she was born before Christmas in 1994.

When J.K. got a full time teaching job she almost had no time to write.  She had to take care of her daughter and do a full time job.  Every time she got a chance she grabbed a pencil and paper.  Finally she finished the book. She sent it to an agent but she got it back in a couple of days. J.K. sent the first three chapters to another agent. Soon she got a letter back saying that they wanted to see the rest of the book.  It took a long time to find someone to publish her book, but in 1996 J.K. found someone to publish her book.  J.K.'s first book got an award from Scottish Arts Council.
